Rachel is one of two Certified Child Life Specialists in the Emergency Department at Maine Medical Center. In the emergency department, Rachel prepares patients and families for their emergency department visit and procedures to help reduce uncertainty and anxiety. Patients are prepared for procedures using developmentally appropriate language, provided support and opportunities for therapeutic play.


Rachel completed her undergraduate degree in Education and Psychology from Hobart and William Smith Colleges in Geneva, New York. After a few years of teaching, Rachel went back to school to pursue her dream of being a child life specialist. She completed her Master’s in Education and Child Life from Mills College in Oakland, California. Prior to joining the BBCH Child Life team, Rachel worked as a child life specialist in the specialty outpatient clinics and emergency department at University of Chicago’s Comer Children’s Hospital. For the past two and a half years, she has been at Maine Medical in her current position.
