Trauma STN: Geriatric Trauma

The focus of this activity is to provide an expanded knowledge on geriatric trauma population that is admitted to MMC. The module will go through identify mechanisms of injury in the elderly population, focus on elderly falls which is a large portion of geriatric traumas, and provide care management for elderly patients.

1. List the most common mechanism of injury in the elderly.
2. Discuss four physiological changes that make the elderly trauma patient vulnerable to complications.
3. Identify three factors that increase the likelihood of geriatric ground level falls.
4. Describe issues with pain control in the elderly.
5. Describe the process for rapid reversal of anticoagulants in head injured patients.
6. Discuss the importance of aligning goals of care.
7. Discuss safe discharge in the elderly population.
