Geriatric Grand Rounds

Grand rounds lectures in Geriatric Medicine address the unique clinical, functional, and psychosocial challenges faced by older adults. Topics covered relate to the Geriatric 5M’s (Mind, Mobility, Medications, Multimorbidity and What Matters Most). They include core Geriatric syndromes such as dementia, delirium, falls, medication management, palliative care, and ethical issues, general medicine topics, as well as strategies for comprehensive assessment and care coordination. Sessions are typically led by Geriatricians, interdisciplinary faculty, subspecialists and peer educators. They are designed for a broad audience including physicians, residents, nurses, pharmacists, and allied health professionals. Learning takes place through live presentations as well as interactive, case-based discussions, and multidisciplinary engagement.

1. Apply supplemental knowledge in key topic areas of Geriatric Medicine into current clinical practice
2. Apply the Geriatrics 5Ms (Mind, Mobility, Medications, Multimorbidity, and What Matters Most) framework to the assessment and management of older adults to ensure comprehensive, individualized care.
3. Apply the principles of multimorbidity management and deprescribing into clinical decision-making by balancing disease-specific guidelines with patient priorities and functional status.
4. Identify and address health equity issues, social determinants of health, and barriers to care affecting older adults, including access, diversity, and transitions of care.
5. Demonstrate effective interprofessional teamwork by understanding roles and responsibilities within the healthcare team to optimize care for older adults
