LEARNING OBJECTIVES FOR THIS PRESENTATION:

Describe different ways state policymakers have responded to substance use in pregnancy.
Explain how professional organizations and federal agencies recommend approaching substance use in pregnancy from a policy perspective.
Describe the association between punitive policies and rates of neonatal abstinence syndrome/neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome.
Identify the associations between punitive state policies related to substance use in pregnancy and a range of outcomes at the level of the infant, mother, and dyad.
