Serious Illness Conversation Training

Occurs every 2 weeks on Tuesday starting on 6/10/2025 at 9:00 AM
Tuesday, June 10, 2025, 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM, Hannaford Center for Safety, Innovation, and Simulation, Portland, ME

The Serious Illness Conversation Training is evidence based and composed of 3 parts: cognitive input, modeling, and skills practice. The training program spans over 3 hours and includes large group and small group activities including role play with simulated patients. The training is currently designed to be in person.

1. Describe evidence-based benefits of early goals of care conversations with patients and families.
2. Identify and demonstrate ability to use NURSE to respond to emotion after delivering prognosis.
3. Formulate and deliver an effective headline
4. Identify components of the serious illness conversation guide or REMAP talking guide.
5. Apply the serious illness conversation guide or REMAP talking guide to a simulated clinical scenario.

In support of improving patient care, MaineHealth is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team.
